Thom Atkins' Workshop:
BEADS 1 Date: Sunday, October 7th, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with 30 minute lunch Location: Cotati City Hall Classrooms, 201 W. Sierra, Cotati Cost: Members $70 + $25 kit fee.; non-members $90 + $25 kit fee. Note: non-members may sign up no more than 90 days prior to the event. Registration online Whether you're a beginner at beading or experienced, you will learn simple beading techniques to embellish your quilts, garments or any fabric creation. Using the class kit you will learn, how to add dimension, texture drama and sparkle to your piece. You can take what you've learned in this workshop to make your own quilts, embellish your art pieces or add unique beauty to garments. See samples from previous workshops below.
About Thom Atkins Thom is a sculptor who is also a quilt artist who utilizes beads in his creations. "I began to explore the relationships between beaded and quilted surfaces and how they relate. I wanted to see beads as an integral part of the design, not just sitting on the surface. Beads and fabric complementing one another, neither one predominating, balanced. " Thom is the author of Beading Artistry where he demonstrates simple beading techniques and stitches to add stunning texture, drama and dimension to cloth whether for quilts or garments.
