Walker Bag Instructions

Walker Bags for Seniors

We are currently sewing walker bags for seniors.  Our goal for this year is 400 walker bags. Ask for a kit at our next meeting or contact us to make other arrangements. Or download our instructions to make a bag from your own fabric.
We have instructions for two different versions of walker bags.
Original Version of Walker Bag with Pleated Cargo Pocket. See the picture at the right.  This version requires a machine that will sew through several layers of upholstery fabric.  Choose this version if you have a heavy-duty or industrial machine or your fabric is upholstery cotton or lighter weight material such as quilting cottons. Pocket lining should be a light colored woven fabric to allow for easier visibility of contents. Ideas are old sheets, muslin, and the reverse side of printed quilting cottons. The lining for the backing can be any woven fabric; color or print is not an issue. Download Instructions for Original Version of Walker Bags.

Modified Walker Bag with Angled Cargo Pocket. This version does not have pleated pockets and does not require sewing through multiple layers of fabric. Download Instructions for Modified Version of Walker Bags.
If you are using your own fabric: This version may be sewn using any woven  fabric for the pockets and the backing. Good examples are denim, canvas, upholstery fabrics or quilt weight cottons. Most shirtings are too lightweight.  The pocket linings should be a lighter color to allow for easier visibility of contents. We've used old sheets, muslin and the reverse side of printed quilting cottons. (The reverse side is usually lighter than the printed side.) The lining of the backing can be any woven fabric.  Download the Pattern for the Modified Version of Walker Bag.
